Today, the 9th of February, marks National Pizza Day. Here are Whitman's top 3 favourite local Independent Pizzeria's.BASE FACE PIZZA
300 King Street, Hammersmith, W6 0RR
The Base Face Pizza story is brilliant; founder Tim was a successful bassist touring the globe, but when lockdown hit and his music career was halted abruptly, Tim turned to pizza! His garage became a hive of pizza activity, and during lockdown, Tim fed pizzas to over 4,000 locals(we were one of his customers, and delicious it was). His business has exploded, and in June 2021, Base Face Pizzeria opened on King Street. Tim Sources local ingredients from independent producers and uses' slow dough'. You can eat (and drink marvellous margaritas!) in the restaurant or get a pizza delivered. If you haven't tried yet, please do; this review from MOB Kitchen says all you need to know: "That local feel is what makes Base Face Pizza one of the best pizza deliveries in the city. How does a pizza with roast pineapple, red onion and tomato jam, crispy smoked pancetta, chilli flakes, fior di latte, and basil sound to you? Bonkers in all the right ways? Exactly. Check 'em out."
SANTA MARIA
Catherine Wheel Rd, Brentford TW8 8AT
Based in Ealing, the Neapolitan, pizza obsessed owners Angelo and Pasquale wanted to bring a piece of Naples to the streets on Brentford. The pizza served in Santa Maria is the same as the pizza you can eat on the streets of Naples, using the same ingredients and adopting the same cooking method. With dining in and delivery options - go check them out!
L'ORO DI NAPOLI
217 Uxbridge Rd, London W7 3TH
A recent introduction to me, my pizza-loving friend has assured me that this L'oro Di Napoli is the real deal. The compact, unassuming Italian restaurant ensures that all of their signature dishes bring the best of Italian cuisine, an excellent option for a family weekend lunch.
Happy pizza eating! 🍕
